  • Renowned World Class referee supports English development

Renowned World Class referee supports English development

Without referees our sport would not exist in the format it does, it is with extensive knowledge and effective management that the game of Roller Hockey can be played and viewed at it’s most spectacular. However referee’s are often players and parents coaxed into position through necessity rather than passion.

The NRHA want to see this trend change and are embarking on a project which aims to inspire people to embrace the role of refereeing with passion and enthusiasm, safe in the knowledge that there is a robust system in place to empower, educate and support them.

Over January’s National Training weekend NRHA President, Keith Allen welcomed World Class referee, Luis Rei to England as the start of a partnership to strategically plan the support and development of referees in England.

Once revered as one of the best Referees on the International scene and famed for completing a warm up before each match, just like the players, Luis’ passion for refereeing the sport of Roller Hockey is infectious and his knowledge of the rules is second to none. In his opinion the better prepared the referee, the better the game, “When watching a game of Roller Hockey played at it’s best, you do not notice the referee, they allow the game to be played the way the game was intended, spectacularly!”

Although now retired from International competitions, Luis’ resume boasts International experience spanning nearly 20 years and includes numerous selections for both Group A and B Senior Men’s World Championships, Women’s World

Championships and performances at various club Championship finals including the CERS Cup and Intercontinental Club Championships.

Luis Rei is also no stranger to the assessment and development of referees and has passed on his wealth of knowledge through a number of referee workshops and lectures worldwide and was also founder of the National Association for Roller Hockey Referee’s in Portugal.

January was the first of four visits Luis will make to England this year and was spent giving him a clear picture of the NRHA, the processes for Domestic and International Competitions in England along with a background to the Committee of Roller Hockey Referees (CRHR) and the referee appointment system. This was followed with discussions on the future and how developments can be in place for next season.

Luis will return to England three more times before the end of this season in order to progress discussions, his understanding of Roller Hockey in England, the CRHR and to assess the current standard of our referees.

Following these visits and through the summer, Luis will work in partnership with the NRHA to develop a strategy for improving our existing structure and the best way to progress forward, with the official strategy released prior to the start of 2012/2013 season.

When asked about his first impression of English Roller Hockey, Luis remarked, “It’s incredible, what you all achieve with so little resource, this would never happen in other countries, I look forward to being able to support your continued development.”

  • Under 17's Squad announced

National Coaching Director, Carlos Amaral announces the National Under 17's Reduced squad

First of all thanks for the commitment shown in Phase One of our Project 2012 preparation.

I am very pleased in having over 30 players in continuing assessment at National Training, with a large number of these players having also been assessed in the November trip and/or Christmas Camp.

I would like all of you to be aware that as well as selecting players based on the six main areas of the game below, I always look at the best combination to make a competitive England team:

    Attitude

    Discipline

    Fitness

    Individual Technique

    Tactics

    Competitiveness

The players born in 1996 not selected for the "Reduced Squad" should carry on their training to either continue their development and/or be part of the preparation process for the Under 20 squad over the next 3 years, by attending Level 5 on Saturday session at National Training up to September, then moving to the Under 20 session on Sunday.

The players born in 1997 (as well as the 1998 players that have been invited to attend Sunday sessions) not selected for the "Reduced Squad" must carry on attending National Training if they want to be considered for Project 2013.

All the players not selected for the "Reduced Squad" will become reserve players as long they carry on training. This is in case of injury, discipline issues, etc because player(s) will be replaced.

Players selected in the "Reduced Squad" have to make all the training dates on the Preparation Plan up to the date I announce the Final Squad. The 10 players announced in the Final Squad will have to make every training activity, as shown in the Preparation Plan.

Please ensure you read the Preparation Plan carefully to ensure you are able to commit to this. If a player cannot commit to the full schedule then I need to be aware now so that I can replace the player.

    Reduced Squad

    Tommy Allander (GK)

    David Jones (GK)

    Guy Osborne (GK)

    Thomas Barry

    Jordan Chambers

    Joshua Gay

    Lewis Greenwood

    Jamie Griffin

    Alex Jones

    Michael King

    Luke Latham

    Scott Neville

    Harry Parfitt

    Rees Parfitt

    Jack Tucker

    Yours in Sport,

    Carlos Amaral

    NRHA Coaching Director

  • Women;s team start thie preparation for next years championships

National Women's teams take their first steps in preparation for next year's Championships.

Last week we travelled to Feira in Portugal with 16 female players aged between 13 and 24 for a development trip. During our stay we had 8 training sessions and played 4 games against local Portuguese teams.

The objective for the trip was to carry out the first assessment of the Under 17 and Seniors Ladies as part of Project 2015 and preparation for the Under 17 Europeans and Worlds Seniors in 2012. The trip gave us the opportunity to see where we are at this stage and to assess what we need to do to progress the girls in all areas of the game so that we have competitive teams for the forthcoming Championships. The girls gelled very well together both on and off the rink which helped contribute to 4 successful days of training. They had a very professional attitude, following the daily plan and focusing on our main objectives.
