The honour of lifting the trophy as Premier League Champions came down to the final match between reigning champions HBU Kings and Middlesbrough this year. Middlesbrough travelled down to the Pier in Herne Bay with a 3 point lead leaving HBU Kings in the knowledge that they needed a win to retain the title.

Middlesbrough responded by converting a direct free hit making the score 1-1 going into the break.

The start of the second half saw HBU Kings taking the initiative scoring twice within a minute but with the majority of the half to go it was still all to play for. Seventeen minutes in and Middlesbrough scored to make it 2-3. Both teams continued to treat the capacity crowd to a spectacular show of top level Roller Hockey and with two minutes left of the game Middlesbrough levelled the score when Owen Stewart found the net through a crowded defence.

A direct fee hit against the home team in the last 44 seconds of the game saw the tension continue to the last moments and Middlesbrough confirmed their place as at the top of the league after an undefeated season as the ball was slotting the ball past the Kings’ keeper leaving the final score 4-3 to Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough Captain Micheal Ableson said after the game, “This is an historic day our club, we have never won the Premier League Before and to do it unbeaten is unbelievable.”
